The newly passed Information Technology Bill is set to make it illegal to not only create and transmit child pornography in any electronic form, but even to browse it. The punishment for a first offence of publishing, creating, exchanging, downloading or browsing any electronic depiction of children in “obscene or indecent or sexually explicit manner” can attract five years in jail and a fine of Rs 10 lakh.
In its first comprehensive amendment nine years after it was first enacted, the Act proposes to bring “cyber terrorism”, “identity theft” and “violation of privacy” into the domain of cyber crime. Critics of the Bill, which is awaiting Presidential assent, say it enables the government to snoop into citizens’ computers while investigating “any offence”. The bill has, however, broken new ground by identifying several new offences and making them punishable.
Section 67 of the existing act deals with “publishing obscene information in electronic form”. It is a generally worded section that does not specifically define “pornography” or make it an offence, and does not mention “child pornography” at all. But in its amended avatar, Section 67B proposes specifically to punish involvement in sexually explicit online or electronic content that depicts children. It will also be an offence to “cultivate, entice or induce children to online relationship with other children for a sexual act.”

We can have an impact on what kind of society will dominate the internet.
Will it be a society of predators where sexual gratification is the rule and the weak and trusting children become subject to it?
Will it be a society of zero-tolerance for child pornagraphy on the internet?
A society that demands at the very least that this incredible new medium of communication set a standard for decency that begins with the protection of innocent children from predators, rape, sexual abuse and the final degradation to the child, of having his/her abuse become a timeless reminder, a picture, a visual tool for others sick sexual gratification.
Please give this issue some thought. Help us spread the word by joining the White Ribbon Campaign. Merely place the White Ribbon on your website to show that you stand against child pornography.
For, ultimately this issue is not a matter of compassion but one of basic humanity and respect.

This advice is for parents of non-adult children:
Well....try using some good softwares....or even your anit-virus firewall can also work....you can block atleast 90% of adult content.
For adults like us....no need to stop them...as its their right to study these topics.

The structure of the Internet makes finding pornography easy, but catching pornographers very difficult. Current police maneuvers are based primarily on going to sites or chat rooms with suspicious names (like dad&daughtersex) and posing as a minor or a pedophile. But how many people are going to be caught this way, and how long will it take?
Furthermore, it allows for the capture of only the least-savvy Internet users. Sure, there are child pornographers on sites and chat rooms like dad&daughtersex--a testament to how cavalier and secure the majority of pedophiles are with regard to the possibility of being captured; but the majority of the porn is where you wouldn't expect to find it. Recently, child pornography was found in a newsgroup on ferrets and high school football!
